New Year Celebrations in India 2018
The New Year 2018 is around the corner and people across the world have already started planning for New Year celebrations. New Year is celebrated across the world on a very large scale on the 1st January of every year. In India, people celebrate this day with full enthusiasm. They welcome New Year with their family and friends.
At that time everyone celebrates winter vacation which starts just before the few days of Christmas festival. Foreigners stop their official work for few days; students get holidays from schools and colleges and just enjoy the full festive holidays. In the Punjab state of India, people celebrate their new year on 14th April of every year also called as Baisakhi. It’s a traditionally a harvest festival celebrated in Punjab on the second week of April that is on 13th or 14th April. They celebrate their new year by performing their traditional dance called as Bhangra and Giddha with the Rhythm of Dhol. Punjabi people also mark this as the Khalsa brotherhood by Sikh Guru Govind Singh.
The Maharashtra state of India, celebrate their new year as Gudi Padwa. It falls on the spring season (March-April). People wake up early morning and finish their rituals on the first day of Chaitra month; they also wear new clothes and decorate their houses with beautiful colorful rangoli designs.
On this day they people worshipped and raised the silk banner, greet everybody with sweets and exchange gifts. The day called as Guddi padwa, as on this day people hang “Gudhis” on their windows to celebrate Mother Nature bounty.
Just like them Bengal state also has their new year falls between 13th and 15th of April every year. Bengali people called their new year as Poila Baisakh and it’s a state holiday state of West Bengal and a national holiday in Bangladesh.
People welcome New Year by cleaning their houses and decorate it and worship Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity. People of Bengal spend their whole day by doing their traditional dance and having their traditional food.
Just like these states, Tamil Nadu and Assam state have also celebrated their new year according to their calendar.
On eve of 31st December, people do get together with their family and friends; have hard drinks and dance with their loved ones and when clocks show 12 a.m. they all wish each other a very happy new year. On New Year, people also took a resolution to improve something in them, for example, students take a resolution that they will do more time in their studies, and some people take the resolution to stay happy always even in tough times.
